What TaxoConf provides
TaxoConf is developed by the Data Autonomy Lab at The University of Queensland, under the leadership of Prof. Zhifeng Bao. It is a taxonomy-driven system for automated conference program scheduling that provides:
- Coherent sessions. It builds a semantic taxonomy from accepted-paper information and uses it to organize papers into focused thematic units, facilitating attendee discussion and sustained focus on related topics.
- Flexible, constraint-aware scheduling. It fits the papers to whatever session plan you specify while satisfying operational constraints such as presenter conflicts, speaker availability, topic separation across parallel sessions, and room allocation by expected demand.
- Human-in-the-loop last-mile editing. Organizers can freely reassign papers and refine the generated program, with TaxoConf flagging potentially questionable assignments for review.
- Diverse output formats. It exports CSV/Excel files that import directly into conference apps, along with a rich, interactive HTML program page ready for the official website.
- Interactive data insights. As a natural by-product of the taxonomy, TaxoConf generates engaging, interactive topic insights alongside traditional conference statistics, giving organizers and attendees a richer view of the program. Explore examples in the Insights tab.

Already Deployed
SIGIR 2026
TaxoConf has supported program generation for SIGIR 2026, a top-tier information retrieval venue with multiple tracks, including full papers, low-resource environments, and industry papers. The system helped organizers keep track identities coherent while allowing flexible session capacities to make better use of the timetable.
Because many SIGIR authors appear on multiple accepted papers, TaxoConf also helped surface conflict-aware organization needs, reducing the risk of assigning related presentations to overlapping times or different locations.

Statistics and topic landscape: Explore the interactive view
IJCNN 2026
TaxoConf has helped generate program structure for IJCNN 2026, part of IEEE WCCI 2026, at the scale of roughly 1,200 accepted papers. The conference combines in-person and virtual oral presentations, creating scheduling pressure across rooms, time zones, and presentation modes.
The tool was especially useful for more than 40 special sessions, where related papers should remain together whenever possible, and for Industry Day planning, where industry-focused presentations needed to be arranged coherently within the broader program.
